Triathlon
The Brian Boru Tri-Challenge

The first annual Brian Ború Triathlon
Challenge invites you to take up the gauntlet on the most scenic
and unique triathlon course based on the shores of Lough Derg
at Killaloe, Co.Clare. Swimmers will take their marks on the lakeshore
at the Twomilegate one of Ireland's premier Blue Flag amenity
areas.
On completion of the open water 750 metre
swim, competitors will then race over a 22 km cycle course on
the most scenic roads overlooking Lough Derg passing by the Brian
Ború oak tree and St Cronans 10th century church, and looping
around the East Clare Memorial Park at Tuamgraney before returning
through the picturesque village of Ogonnelloe.The challenge doesn't
end there, on completion of the cycle, a 5km run still awaits
any would be Árd Rí.
The run will take place on the steep slopes
of the peaceful forest at Ballycuggeran with its many magnificent
viewing points. Having surmounted these challenges, first over
the line will be ceremoniously crowned “Árd Rí
2009” on the ancient site of Kincora the seat of Brian Ború
Killaloe and Irelands last high king.

A one week creative camp will be held in
both July and August by Killaloe based artist Lynn Kenny (www.lynnkenny.com)
Lynn’s classes will be held in a relaxed and fun environment
and will introduce each child to a comprehensive range of mediums
so they can develop skills and find their creative potential;
eg painting and drawing, 3d clay and paper mache, puppetry, soft
textile work, printing and collage.
Children will need to bring packed lunch and to wear old clothes.
All materials will be supplied. Venue in Killaloe to be confirmed.

Lynn has a Degree in Design from NCAD, HDIP in community Education
and since 1996 has taught and facilitated children and adults

Brian Boru the Killaloe community festival takes place early in
July each year. This 5 day event celebrates one of Ireland’s
most famous kings. Reputed to have broken the power of the Vikings
in Ireland, Brian Boru was originally from Killaloe. This festival
has a distinctive Viking age flair with its Viking village and
market. There are plenty of entertaining events taking place throughout
the festival so you won’t be short of things to do and see.
